In a conversation I had with a friend about why I don’t ship Klaine, some reasons came out for me that I haven’t expressed before.  

And they have nothing at all to do with Darren Criss, so let’s get just that out of the way.  I actually think Darren is all kinds of adorable, and he’s very attractive, but no more so than the other male actors on that show.  I support Darren Criss, and I buy his music, with some exceptions.  

I don’t hate Darren, but I’m not going to lie and say I’m a huge fan, and I’ll admit I know nothing about Starkid and anything else he might have done prior to Glee.

Anybody who follows me knows that I dislike the Blaine character, and his actions, and I have posted before about my stated reasons for that dislike.  Those are factors in why I don’t ship Klaine, and I’m not going to repeat those here.  

But there is another conclusion I came to during this discussion with my friend that has nothing to do with Blaine’s negative actions towards Kurt in canon.

I’ve been trying to steer clear of Glee meta and related things just because I kind of want the Glee wank out of my life forever, but this is so accurate it hurts and it’s one of the many, many reasons I hate Klaine and Blaine.

And on a better written show with writers who didn’t just jerk off the fangirls, they would address this issue and portray Klaine for what it is- an emotionally taxing/sometimes abusive relationship. Yeah, I know there are going to be people who get mad at me for saying that and declare me the anti-christ and they’re in the right, so much as the canon wants us to believe that Klaine isn’t an abusive or emotionally-taxing burden on Kurt. It’s like what gleecritic was saying about canon not letting us think for ourselves anymore. They’re just shoving Klaine (and finchel and brittana) down our throats and yelling THESE ARE PERFECT RELATIONSHIPS OKAY. LOVE THEM AND DESPAIR. But in real life, something that a good percentage of the Klaine fanbase has either lost touch with, have yet to be in touch with, or have never and will never have touch with, these would be abusive/emotionally-taxing relationships, Klaine especially. Just because the lazy writing says it isn’t doesn’t mean that’s the last word on it or that it’s accurate (and if you’re taking Glee as the last word on anything, you need to broaden your horizons a little).

Basically, the Glee canon/writing is manipulative and considering their fanbase/viewership, that is a very dangerous thing indeed.
